Learn more about 'Sharing Compassion' with your church, family, or friends. It's all right here, at your fingertips, 5 key steps to effective evangelism. Let God use you to help touch children’s lives with His love.
Step One: Pray
- For guidance and creativity as you consider how you will share Compassion.
- For an opportunity to share.
- For open hearts willing to respond to the needs of children at risk.
- For clarity as you communicate the plight of poor children worldwide.
Step Two: Choose an Audience and a Presentation Format
- Decide whether you want to share Compassion one-on-one, with a small group, with your church or with your community.
- Review the presentation ideas under Sharing Compassion Know-how and choose one that suits your style.
- Familiarize yourself with our Sharing Compassion resources and select which ones can help you present the needs of children at risk.
- Start planning what you want to include in your presentation: Scripture verses, statistics on children at risk, a video, a PowerPoint presentation, or your personal sponsorship testimony.
Step Three: Get Permission, if Applicable
- If you want to share with your church, make an appointment with your pastor to discuss whether it is possible. Explain why you are involved with Compassion and how you plan to present the ministry to your church.
- If you want to share with a small group, ask for the leader’s support.
- If you want to place posters or brochures in churches and businesses around your community, make sure you have permission.
Step Four: Order Compassion Resources
You can order your free Sharing Compassion Resources by emailing us at sharingca@compassion.ca, by calling Compassion’s Children’s Advocacy Network toll free at 1.800.563.5437, or by faxing 1.519.685.1107. Expect to receive them in the mail 10 to 14 days after we receive your order.
Step Five: Implement Your Plan
- Before Sharing Compassion
- Gather all the materials you need for your presentation.
- Place posters in prominent areas in your church a week or two before your event.
- Make arrangements for the use of a DVD Player or PowerPoint equipment, if needed.
- Tell your church office about bulletin inserts and arrange for distribution, if appropriate.
- If you set up a Compassion table in your church foyer, find volunteers to man it. Tell them how to process child packets (instructions are included with the packets).
- While Sharing Compassion
- Follow through with your plan. Conclude your presentation with a challenge, telling people why they should become Compassion’s sponsors. Let them know you’re available to talk to them if they need more information or want to sponsor a child.
- Trust that God will move people to respond to your presentation.
- After Sharing Compassion
- If applicable, mail all child packet acceptance forms back to Compassion Canada. Keep all other materials for your next Sharing Compassion presentation or place them in your church library.
- Write us an e-mail of your experience, suggesting ways to improve Sharing Compassion.
